Fill Odd’s Sack may have a risqué title, but in reality it’s all about making people happy and helping provide some smiles to those who need them most this holiday season.
Every year at Christmas time, most folks are worried more about themselves and their usually ungrateful brood. It’s part of the reason I refer to Christmas as Me-Mas, cuz heaven forbid those who are financially able to contribute NOT waste hundreds of dollars on shit they don’t need rather than help out.
The crazy thing is that the people who are usually willing to help out are those who barely have enough for themselves. It’s sad that those with the least are willing to give the most.
We have an over 6 foot tall sack and we aim to fill it this year. Last through our own donations and the generosity of both fans and guests we were able to get it half filled. We work with the Westland Goodfellows an organization that my family has been working with for years. My grandparents did charity work with the Wayne chapter of the Good Fellows and I am carrying on the tradition with the Westland chapter. I want to thank all of you helped out and sent in or brought in goodies for the kids. From what I heard the gifts were greatly appreciated.
This year we intend to “Fill” Odd’s sack. You can send toys, clothes or even checks and money orders to help out. I am not expecting you all to send hundreds of dollars, but you could take 10 bucks and hit up your toy stores or discount retail stores (like Family Dollar or Dollar General). You’d be surprised just how far $10 can go. I know it doesn’t seem like a large amount, but more money has been raised via multiple small amounts than a handful of large donations.
$10 is also easy enough to come by. One could skip a pack or two of smokes or forego eating out twice a week. Hell, there is a multitude of things one could skip or live without in order to come up with the cash. Let’s make Christmas (Me-Mas) 2010 about selflessness instead of selfishness.
